Item Details
Description
Near East, Persia / Iran, ca. 18th century CE. An extremely long flintlock rifle intended for use in warfare. The flared wooden stock end is adorned with hammered brass sheets and buttons, thus increasing the gripping power of the wielder, and an elongated trigger guard allowed for more control when firing. The octagonal iron barrel is held within a deep-grooved wooden forestock with several pinned brass sheets with intricately-hammered designs further securing the shaft. The spaces beneath the barrel hold an equally-extensive muzzle-loader pole with a slightly-widened packing end. The cast-iron flintlock mechanism is comprised of a threaded flint clamp, a smooth striking plate, and an adjustable flash pan. A bi-pronged sight rests laterally in relation to the flash pan, and a small strap ring was used for transporting the armament when not in use. Skillfully-crafted and beautifully-detailed, this elegant firearm exemplifies the craftsmanship of Persian marksmen! Size: 65" L (165.1 cm).
