Description
A Native American Swirling Log pattern bow. The bowl has a red gloss glaze in the interior and a black, red and cream flat glaze on the exterior. Four swirling log patterns on the exterior. The whirling log or swastika form is an ancient symbol. It is a symbol that stands for "well-being" or "good luck". The form has been used by many cultures for centuries before being perverted by Nazi Germany and WWII. Up to WWII the symbol appeared on Apache, Navajo and Pueblo ceremonial and decorative objects. After learning of the Nazi association the symbol was basically discontinued from use. The use of this symbol by Native Americans is usually from before 1940.
