BOOKS: Hand-written Diary 1856 with Drawings 114pp, Pocket Diary. No. 2. 1856. Stiff, thin, leather-covered boards. 3 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches. 114 pages. Pencil and pen entries and numerous drawings, many of soldiers. Begins with what looks like lists of purchases or accounts, first text entry begins Feb 1857 "In School. 13 girls bright rosy cheeked maids ful of fun good looking,,," Switches from pencil to pen on page 34 "A description of your fututure husband or wife. 1 A rich old maid. 2 A dark eyed farmer...." Name of Josiah Billingsley on page 39. Page 43 "Aug 27th 1856 We has a frost yesterday morning. I been going to school at gurney for 9 1/2 weeks..." Page 66 has drawings of a house with a floor plan of the ground floor. Switches back to pencil on page 85. Pages 95 is titled "Hyreoglyphics" and is followed by pages of unknown characters. Page 111 has a list of female first and last names. Laid in is a finely cut silhouette reversed from light paper and wrapped around a piece of black cloth.
