Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Two lovely cast-bronze fibulae (or brooches) from the ancient Roman Empire. One has an elegantly-shaped body, a semicircular top section with two small grooves on the bottom, and a triangular connection point. The second brooch has a thin lower body with an integral fastening slot, a crescent-shaped upper section with two broad flanged terminals, and a rectangular crest with a top rim comprised of thin vertical ribs. Both fibulae have lovely green patina as well as their original fastening pins. Size of largest (broad terminals): 2" H (5.1 cm).
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

Condition
Both items have age-commensurate surface wear, small chips and losses to details, encrustations over the hinged sections of fastening pins, and light earthen deposits. Both pins have survived the tests of time; however, they are encrusted in place which is not surprising given how old they are.
