Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, ca. 1550 to 712 BCE. A beautiful pair of carved lapis lazuli amulets, one a beetle-form scarab and the other a kneeling figure. The laterally-drilled scarab has characteristic insectile features on the top side, such as thin legs, a small head, and two large wings. The underside, while faded, displays an image of a standing sphinx with four thin legs and broad, upturned wings. The second amulet is that of a kneeling figure, perhaps either a young pharaoh or an important political figure, with well-proportioned facial features, with one arm bent to his knee and the other hanging at his side; the amulet also has a protruding pierced suspension loop on the verso. Both items have a gorgeous sapphire-blue color which imbues them with a regal and high-status appearance. Size (scarab): 0.55" L (1.4 cm); size (kneeling figure): 0.75" H (1.9 cm).
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
