Europe, ca. 16th century CE. A trio of copperplate engraved maps of European places, with some text, all on leaves/pages taken from books. Size of each page: 7.65" W x 11.6" H (19.4 cm x 29.5 cm); size of each page in matte frame: 12" W x 16" H (30.5 cm x 40.6 cm).

First, a map of Belgrade from a French edition of Sebastian Munster's "Cosmographia", published ca. 1560, a cityscape of Belgrade at the time of an attack by Ottoman Turks. Wonderful details of the city, showing its location on the confluence of the Danube and the Sava, with its towers and cliff walls emphasized. The french text below describes the Ottoman attack.

Next, a map of the Rhine River following the river's course as it flows between Strausburg and Bingen. Printed in France, ca. 1560, the map was created by Sebastian Munster and beautifully labeled and with excellent topographical detail. The french text below describes the region.

Finally, a map of the Mainz skyline with labels in German, seen from the Rhine River, created ca. 1542.

Condition
Belgrade map: near invisible stains, one low in text, one in water in the engraving. Rhine River: discoloration at borders from being in a book. Mainz: stain to bottom of page (not on text), smaller stain in text at top but text still legible. Dark wear along top border. Tear to lower border (outside of the text).
