Description
Pre-Columbian, Mesoamerica, ca. 200 to 800 CE. A stunning necklace comprised of dozens of beautiful carnelian and greenstone beads of various shapes and sizes arranged in a balanced, symmetrical composition and centered upon a finely carved and stringcut greenstone pendant depicting a seated lord or deity figure. Size: 20" L (50.8 cm); pendant 2" L x 1.25" W (5.1 cm x 3.2 cm)
Flanking the pendant are twelve conical-shaped carnelian beads (6 on each side) of translucent orange hues that are tastefully set apart by petite green stone spacers; above these are rounded beads (4 on each side) in seafoam green followed by carnelian, dark greenstone, and mottled greenstone; then a pair of cylindrical greenstone beads followed by another pair of rounded greenstone beads; next is a pair of long tubular carnelian beads, followed by additional greenstone beads (2 rounded and 7 lozenge shaped), and finally a tubular carnelian bead meets a large perforated round greenstone bead behind the neck. A head turner for sure, presenting an attractive design and featuring a mesmerizing figural pendant at the center.
