Paul King Marine Harbor Sailboat Seascape
KING, Paul B. (American, 1867-1947): "Concarneau Harbor", oil/canvas, 16" x 12" (stretcher measurement 16 1/4" x 12 1/8" with typical expansion), 22 1/4" x 18 1/4" x 1 3/4" overall object framed dimension, signed lower right, titled and additionally signed again as well as inscribed Stony Brook, L.I. NY on canvas verso. Modern post-WWII carved corner Arts and Crafts Movement style Impressionist gilt frame.
Provenance: Sale of estate items, the property of a prominent East Coast family, the surviving heir a Harvard alumnus and publisher of an international magazine, name withheld by request.
French Brittany harbor Impressionist petite maître oil probably from the expatriate period of the American artist during 1905-1906 when he was studying with Dutch masters and painting throughout Europe, inscribed with both the Breton location and his New York address (although he did not, according to additional information sourced online, formally establish his Long Island studio near the Hamptons until 1921).

Condition
Older conservation with now likely mellowing varnish, no tears, not lined, some fine craquelure, modern frame with surface wear to all edges of gilding.
