Description
Chinese early 19th c. Mirror Box. A hard solid rosewood Chinese mirror box inlaid in mother of pearl and brass metal, having handles and clasp. The box unfolds. The top part which holds a framed mirror can be left up, supported by the lid and a piece of wood across the front. These boxes were first brought back to Europe by merchants of the different Asian traveling companies. They were not made for the European market and the fronts often contained pictures of beautiful Asian Ladies, this one is missing the original portraits, add your own. Beveled mirror, missing one MOP flower to front. some wear. Back bottom molding needs to be glued, split. Measures 12"x9"x8". Weight 10 pds. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate.
