Benjarong is the porcelain of the Thai royalty. Until the reign of Rama IX beginning in the 1930s, its ownership and use was restricted to the Thai Royal Family and aristocracy. Production of benjarong began in Thailand in the mid 1800s during the reign of Thailand?s most popular King, Rama V. Our pieces are heavily gilded with 18k gold and hand applied thick enamel over porcelain, this compares to modern produced pieces with very little gold and machine applied finishes. Our collections comprise rare original pieces as they were first available to the public after the ban was lifted produced sometime before the mid 1900s. We have broken our collection into lots of approximately 12 pieces each. Each piece is signed with a replica of Rama V?s signature as portrayed by the artisan. Each signature replica is unique and no two are the same, signifying the early originality of our pieces. The pieces all come from a large Thai estate and were in storage for many years. Each piece had developed an original patina which we have chosen to leave intact, however we have also provided a photo example the beauty which is unearthed when the pieces are properly cleaned with a bleach solution as well as a very mildly abrasive metal polish. It is nearly impossible to find examples of the ?King signed? early publicly available benjarong. Most of our pieces have a Rama V image on them which is consistent with the early post-ban production in the 1940s and 1950s. Compare what is on the market and you will find the overwhelming majority of the benjarong for sale and recently sold has machine produced markings underneath.
