Frederick McDuff Beach Painting 2 of 4

The second of four lots in this sale comprising three paintings as well as a fourth miniature painting that was a gift from the artist, the miniature offered with a collector archive of McDuff ephemera including Wally Findlay, Venable and Venable Neslage Galleries literature.

McDuff III, Frederick Hale (American French, 1931-2011): Beach Scene with Bathers, oil on canvas mounted on matboard, 8.5 x 12.5 inches, 15 x 19 x 1.75 inches framed, signed lower right, artist copyright stamp and Venables Fine Arts label on backing paper. Gessoed frame with name plaque, linen liner and gessoed liner.

Provenance:

Private collection of a retired manager of a well known Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C. business whose clients included the National Gallery of Art and the State Dept., name of business and individual withheld by request.

Sound estate discovery condition with moderate surface dirt, moderate darkened varnish and a few small flakes in the sand. A bit dusty. Mat board mount for canvas is likely vintage and assumed original. Scattered moderate mat stains, frame good, backing paper brittle, taped and tattered.
