Description:
Original lithograph concert poster. 49.5x34 cm (19½x13½"). First Printing.
One of the classic Grateful Dead images of the psychedelic era, used to promote the 1968 Memorial Day shows at the Carousel Ballroom. The Carousel was run by several San Francisco area bands, including the Grateful Dead and the Jefferson Airplane, in an effort to produce concerts independently of Bill Graham. Unfortunately, the bands were poor managers, and within six weeks of these Memorial Day shows, Bill Graham had purchased the Carousel and renamed it the Fillmore West. The image is featured in "The Art Of Rock", plate 2.160
Condition
General light wear with areas of light creasing, pinholes to top and bottom edges, tears with loss at 2 corners, a few small abraded areas, unobtrusive wax drippings near left edge; about very good.
