Description

19th century Japanese bronze / brass page turner with engraved blade and low relief handle with each side depicting a head of a dragon under a pomegranate and flowers on vines. The blade is engraved with a snail crawling up a bamboo stem on one side and a butterfly in flight over flower on the other. Good design, sharp work with wonderful detailing - see the texture of dragon’s horns with little raised bumps, finely worked whiskers and mane texture. Nice patina, some dull reddish area on the end of the blade on the butterfly side. Wonderful object for a writing desk. Length 11 1/4 inches.
