North America, Native American, Montrose County, Colorado, Ute Indians, Late Archaic to early Woodland Periods, ca. 2000 BCE to 200 CE. A wonderful hand-shaped stone pounder or bark beater from the Ute Indian tribe of the American West. It has a lengthy handle with a slightly rounded tip, and the beating end is oblong in shape. Both handle and pounding end are integral (carved from one piece of stone), making this a wonderfully well-preserved tool! Size: 10.5" L (26.7 cm).
