A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SPIDER GATE LEG TABLE, LATE 18TH CENTURY, ENGLISH, likely composed of Cuban sourced, extra fine, remarkably figured mahogany, the rectangular top flanked by two rectangular leaves, opening over a gate leg mechanism, over a wide skirt with shaped ends, raised on ring turned tapered legs, terminating in Queen Anne style pad feet, joined by a block and turned box stretcher, height: 28", width: 14", depth: 36"; open width: 35 1/2".

Top has surface scratches, dents, possible wood filled areas, occasional dark staining, expected wear to edges, the central panel has an even fading of the finish, and the central and left tops appear to have been reversed and mounted during an apparent, later restoration, including visible areas where hinges were mounted, breaks and repairs to the stretcher and leg joints. Some losses of original screws. A later finish applied, some traces of green and yellow paint decoration mostly along the top edges. Some repairs at the stretcher, most hinges are replaced, and three feet have chip losses and breaks or cracks, but overall in very good, stable condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
