Description
**Originally Listed At $600**
Greece, probably Hellenistic, ca. 300 BCE. A smooth, round bronze mirror with a gilded pattern that appears to be grape vines around the rim of the cover side. The other side has a slight rim around what would have once been a reflective surface. A tab projecting from one side with three holes drilled through it shows where a handle would have been. Greek women in red-figure pottery are often depicted looking at themselves in round mirrors, and mirrors like this one are found in the graves of higher status Greek women. Mirrors may also have played a religious role, used in divining rituals. Size: 7.3" L x 6.5" W (18.5 cm x 16.5 cm)
Provenance: private New Jersey USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
