Description
SD-6 STRAWBERRY DIAMOND PRESSED OPEN SALT, medium bottle green, scallop-and-point rim, on four feet. Extremely rare. New England or Midwestern United States. 1830-1840. 2" H, 2 1/8" x 3".
Rim with shallow chip causing the partial loss of two scallops, otherwise only light inner-rim mold roughness and a shallow chip to edge of base.
Literature: Neal - Pressed Glass Salt Dishes of the Lacy Period, p. 448. Like Elsholz, lot 1571.
Provenance: From a Pennsylvania private collection.
Catalogue Note: This is only the second example of this salt that we have sold.
