Item Details
Description
BLOWN-MOLDED GV-7 JUG, colorless, pint size, exhibiting a bold applied hollow handle and a plain base with rough pontil mark. Probably Mid-Atlantic area, possibly Union Flint Glass Works, Philadelphia, or Baltimore Flint Glass Works. 1820-1840. 4 7/8" H.
Short check to the body in-line with the lower terminal of the handle, otherwise undamaged.
Literature: The McKearins - American Glass, pl. 116, fig. 6.
Provenance: Collection of Fraser & Lynda Reid, Exeter, NH.
Catalogue Note: Ken Wilson remarked in the above reference, "Most pitchers in this extremely rare pattern were found by early collections near Philadelphia and Baltimore, including a blue quart pitcher, also from the George S. McKearin Collection, now in the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Mich (acc. no. 59.28.245), and fragments of a colorless three-pint pitcher excavated at Alexandria, Va., now in the Alexandria Archaeological Museum."
We have only sold one other example of these jugs, a large-size specimen, also with cracks, from the Corning Museum of Glass in 2004.
Condition
Short check to the body in-line with the lower terminal of the handle, otherwise undamaged.
