Africa, Ethiopia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of metal processional crosses, one made of brass and the other from steel. The brass cross has circular motifs throughout with four avian figures surrounding the top section; the handle has two triangular protrusions to hold the top in place, and has an open four-petal design on bottom. The steel cross has a circular lattice-work top section with four flared cross adornments, three on each side and top and one in the center; the handle has ornate curvilinear designs, and the bottom section is square-shaped with similar lattice-work designs. Size (steel): 10" H (25.4 cm); size (brass): 10.25" H (26 cm).
