Description
This poster for Japan's Navy Day in the mid-Thirties is a remarkable historical document. The title references the end of the First London Naval Disarmament Treaty that had been in effect since 1930. Japan, a significant naval power, would soon withdraw from the Second London Naval Disarmament Conference held in London in January 1936. The Japanese refusal to participate a second time was a major blow to world peace, and a key step towards war. Japan aggressively built up its naval might. In July 1937, they invaded China and in December 1941 attacked Pearl Harbor.
