Joseph-Charles Hervieux de Chanteloup was an early 18th-century ornithologist and considered the ‘ultimate canary connoisseur’. (Birkhead). Hervieux is famous for his treatise on canaries and other cage birds – ‘Treaty on Canaries.’ In this book, Hervieux describes all aspects of canary birds including the types of birds, appropriate cages for these cage birds, proper food, cures for bird illnesses, costs of purchase and upkeep – a highly useful and important book for bird keepers and owners.

Hervieux was also considered a master at teaching canaries how to sing. This book includes examples of music and melodies that are best taught to birds!
