English and American, 19th century. A group of four country chairs, including:
one American chair with shaped cross rails, turned front legs and stretchers, and straight back legs, with rush seat; ht. 46, wd. 24 in.;
one American chair with rectangular back, straight stiles, and rush seat, all rising on straight tapered legs; ht. 42.5, wd. 21.5 in.;
one English sack back Windsor chair with straight arms, rising on turned legs; ht. 36.5, wd. 19.5 in;
and one English sack back Windsor chair with outwardly splayed arms and connecting stretcher between turned legs; ht. 43.5, wd. 26 in.
Condition
Chair with shaped cross rails: split on top of left arm, loss to finish, repair to back two legs near ends, and scuffs to wood.
Chair with rectangular back: mite damage, scuffs to wood, damage to front apron below seat.
One sack back: wear and loss to finish, a bit wobbly, and split on left side of seat.
Second sack back: seat split and previous repair, mite damage.
Chair with rectangular back: mite damage, scuffs to wood, damage to front apron below seat.
One sack back: wear and loss to finish, a bit wobbly, and split on left side of seat.
