Rick Griffin surely rose to the occasion when commissioned by Soundproof Productions to create this Grateful Dead poster for its first show at the Avalon Ballroom following the departure of the Family Dog. The poster, known as “Aoxomoxoa,” is one of the defining images of the psychedelic poster art genre. Six months after this show, the Dead selected this image as the cover artwork for its third Warner Brothers album. There are several authorized reprints of this beautiful poster, but this is the original, pre-show first print, and it is very difficult to find.

Condition

Very Good. Extensive handling and creasing. Tack holes in the upper corners and several small edge splits. There is a small spot of residue at bottom center that appears to be from an old sticker that fell off. Last, there is writing on the back that appears to class scheduling options.
