Description
1694 1ed Life of Queen Elizabeth Tudor England Portraits Henry VIII Anne Boleyn
In 1693, Gregorio Leti produced a biographical account of Elizabeth I, Queen of England. While many books were written on the life of the last Tudor monarch, Leti was the first! Leti’s “Life of Elizabeth Queen of England” was the first of its kind and featured many aspects of her childhood, her romantic endevours, as well as an account of her mother Anne Boleyn.
Even though Leti was called ‘inexact’ by the Catholic Encyclopedia and ‘inaccurate’ by the Lutheran church, his historical importance and relevance is well-known and unprecedented. (Mosheim, 194).
This rare first French edition was published in 1694 and translated out of the original Italian by Antoine Le Peletier. It is also illustrated throughout with portraits of important English figures including Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Mary I, Thomas Cranmer, and more!
