Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Colombia, Rio Magdalena, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A huge, hand-built terracotta urn with a flat base, a tall, cylindrical body, and a rolled rim. A decorative program of segmented, tendril-form lines as well as a pair of abstract lizards detail the rim exterior. This vessel would have once had a highly-detailed anthropomorphic lid, as is common with Rio Magdalena urns of this type. Size: 8.75" W x 11" H (22.2 cm x 27.9 cm).
