Description
Four (4) late 19th century cast iron sewing machines. 1st item: Josef Wertheim Superba Model B portable, table top, hand crank sewing machine with fiddle shaped base, mother-of-pearl floral inlay, gilt and Japaned decoration. Marked Superba on the top with John G. Burdoch retailer label on the front. Mounted onto the original base. Not tested for functionality. Machine - 8" H x 16 1/2" W x 6 1/4" D. Base - 21" W x 10 1/2" D. Circa 1870-1880. 2nd Item: Jones & Company, Manchester, England cat-back or swan neck table top, hand crank, reciprocating shuttle sewing machine. Ebonized paint ground with gilt decoration, fiddle base and scroll feet. Maker's impressed stamp and trade mark to sewing surface. 10" H x 13" W x 8" D. Circa 1890. 3rd item: New Home sewing machine with wheel, round base and curved back. Black paint with gilt oak leaf and berry decoration. Stamped on the sewing plate "The New Home Sewing Machine Co./Orange, Mass. USA" along with the greyhound trademark logo. Serial number stamped below sewing plate, #3458515. 8 3/4" H x 10 1/2" W x 6" D. Late 19th century. 4th item: Early Gold Medal Sewing Machine Company model sewing machine. Table top machine with hand crank, fiddle shaped base, arched top design having allover black paint with painted floral designs. Stamped on the underside of the needle door "Manuf'd by the Gold Medal S M Co." and numbered #29. Also stamped "Patented Nov. 12, 1860" with additional patent dates on the sewing plate. 9 3/4" H x 14" W x 6" W. Mid 19th century. Private Middle Tennessee collection. Please note: The functionality of any of these sewing machines is not guaranteed. 1st item: Overall general wear, losses to decoration to hand-wheel side on base. Wear and losses to wooden base. Original cover missing. 2nd item: Overall general wear to paint and gilt decoration. Appears to be functional. 3rd item: Overall good condition with general wear to paint decoration, some oxidation to metal surfaces. 4th item: Overall general wear and losses to paint decoration, oxidation and wear to metal surfaces.
