Description
Two (2) Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japanese, 1839-1892) later edition woodblock prints from his "Mirror of Famous Generals" series. 1st item: Woodblock print titled "Uesugi Terutoranyudo Kenshin" (Uesugi Kenshin dancing by a Bonfire), number 20 in the series, originally published by Chujiro Funazu, 1878. Two labels, including one Shogun Gallery, Washington, DC label with artist, title, and original publisher information, and one label titled "Usuegi Terutora Nyudo Kenshin" with information about the subject of the print, en verso. Housed under glass in a black wood frame. Sight - 13" H x 8 3/4" W. Framed - 21" H x 17" W. 2nd item: Woodblock print titled "Kamitsukeno Yatsunada attacking Saohime's Castle", number 39 in the series, originally published by Funazu Tadajiro, 1880. Two labels, including one with artist, title, original publisher information, and information about the story of Saohime, the grandaughter of the legendary ninth emperor of Kaika, and one Robinson's Gallery, Nashville, TN label, en verso. Housed under glass in a black wood frame. Sight - 13" H x 8 1/2" W. Framed - 19 3/4" H x 14 3/4" W. Provenance: the estate of Harold Maier, Nashville, Tennessee.
