Description
Pair of pearlware urns and covers in the Chinese style, possibly Worcester Dr. Wall period or Swansea , each decorated in the blue and white Willow pattern with vignettes containing pagoda and landscape designs and having applied gilt decoration around the shoulders; domed tops with recumbent foo dog finials. Each vase signed with underglaze blue workman's mark. 11" H. English, circa 1770. Provenance: The estate of Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition
1st vase: two hairlines, 1" and 2", to neck; a few scattered minute flakes to edge of lid, neck and foot ring, a couple of small firing flaws or glaze pops to side. Wear to gilding on lid. 2nd item: 3 hairlines to neck, ranging in size from 1" to 3"; a 1/8" flake to edge of foot.
