Description
17 American Federal coin silver table or serving spoons, most 18th century. Includes 6 tablespoons with mid rib handles; slashed drops and Hanoverian style monograms en verso HIL, with double marks: EMBREE in rectangle for Effingham Embree (working New York, circa 1785-1794) , and IB in rectangle, attributed Jacob Boelen III (working New York circa 1785); 6 table or serving spoons with bright-cut engraved oval handles, enclosing monograms EV (4) and PS (2), marked en verso W.G. Forbes in rectangles, with psuedohallmarks, for William G. Forbes, working New York, circa 1773; 2 table or serving spoons with oval handles, monogrammed MI or MJ, marked en verso S. RICHARDS in rectangle, for Samuel Richards Jr. , working Philadelphia, circa 1783; 1 coffin end table or serving spoon marked D. BROWN in rectangle (working Philadelphia, c. 1811); 1 table or serving spoon with bright cut engraved oval handle, enclosing an illegible three-part monogram, marked en verso RE in rectangle for Robert Evans, working Boston, c. 1798; and 1 tablespoon with pointed oval handle and RA monogram, marked en verso GJ WOLF in banner for General James Wolf, working Wilmington, Delaware circa 1800. 28.5 oz troy. Condition
Most are in good condition with scattered minor areas of wear and small dents. D. Brown spoon has wear to top of bowl and dents to bowl. Embree spoons have some wear to marks and ribs.
