Description
EXTRAORDINARY 18th Century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain vase, delicately potted in a globular body with round shoulder gently raised the cylindrical tall neck toward the flaring rim, raised on foot base. The exterior delicately hand painted with various tones and shades in cobalt blue and grayish-red underglaze depicted cranes and deer in a landscape scene. The decoration theme symbolized happiness and the return of spring. The celestial vase elegantly displayed upon a carved hardwood stand. Combining the deer and crane, which is also associated with longevity, creates the rebus liuhe, the six harmonies. The six harmonies refer to the four cardinal points of the compass and heaven and earth, and is a concise way of referring to everything on earth under heaven. Combining the deer, crane and pine tree expresses the desire that everything under heaven and throughout the earth remain evergreen, and is a wish for longevity.
