Description
The marvelously detailed and colored street plan of Boston from the 1870 edition of Mitchell's popular New General Atlas of the world. The plan is framed by the vine motif border typical of Mitchell maps of the mid-1860s to 1881 and includes an inset "Map of the Country around Boston Showing also its Harbor and Islands."
Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1790-1860) was an American geographer born in Connecticut. He worked as an educator before turning to publishing geography textbooks and maps.
