Description
During the hot summer months, residents of Edo would often take to the Sumida River in pleasure boats to enjoy the cool air off the river. The Ryogoku Bridge was a center of evening entertainment. In this beautiful evening view, pedestrians along the bridge and boaters watch a spectacular fireworks display over the river. This woodblock print, in oban format measures 14.5" high by 10" wide. It was originally published in 1858, the year that Hiroshige died. This is a later edition from c1930, published by Mr. Adachi, a well known publisher in the 1920s-30s.
