Description
Southeast Asia, Cambodia, ca. 19th century to early 20th century CE. A fantastic grey schist bust of the god Vishnu, identifiable by his tall, conical crown. The face is naturalistic and calm, with a warm smile, almond-shaped eyes, and high cheekbones. Incised lines form a hairline near the temples. The style of the carving is an homage to that of the Khmer Empire, whose huge temple complex, Angkor Wat, was dedicated to Vishnu. Size: 7" H (17.8 cm); 11.75" H (29.8 cm) on included custom stand.
