[Science - Discovery] First Book on the Subject of Radium by Thomas Edison's Chief Engineer - First Edition 1903

Hammer, William J. RADIUM AND OTHER RADIO-ACTIVE SUBSTANCES Polonium, Actinium and Thorium. New York: D. Van Nostrand Company, 1903. First Edition. 9 by 5 3/4 inches in the original green cloth binding with gilt titling to the upper cover and spine. William Joseph Hammer (1858-1934) was born in Cressona, Pennsylvania and joined Thomas Edison's laboratory at the age of 21 where he collaborated in the development of the incandescent bulb. He eventually took a great interest in radium and it's use in the treatment of cancer and this work precedes Madame Curie's publication on radium by one year. 

Condition
Very slight spotting at bottom cover edges - otherwise a bright and fresh Near Fine example of the first edition.
