Description
JAPANESE AND UNITED STATES NAVIES OFFICER'S MESS SILVERWARE
Two World War II-era pieces of silverware used at the tables of Japanese and American naval officers. Includes: U.S. Navy officer's mess 7 1/2" fish knife with a fanciful design, possibly an admiral's silverware as it bears four stars on one side, engraved "U.S.N." on the reverse with name of maker: "International Silver Co." also engraved. This piece of silver was found in an envelope indicating it had been salvaged from the USS OKLAHOMA at Pearl Harbor by Cmdr. J. J. Lavasseur, Supply Officer, the note signed by his son. Also present is an Imperial Japanese Navy officer's mess condiment spoon, silverplate, in the Emperor's design pattern with anchor and cherry blossom. Measures 5 1/4" long, hallmarked: "Sasage & Co.". Both pieces very good.
