Description
Japanese medal, Emperor Hirohito enthronement medal, issued in 1928, in original case. This medal commemorates Hirohito’s ascendence to the throne following the death of his father, and it was issued to people who participated in the celebration ceremonies. Obverse: Imperial throne. 'Banzai' written below. Cherry and orange blossoms surrounding. Reverse: Cloud shapes. Inscribed Showa 3 [1928] November, Enthronement Commemorative Medal.' The ribbon was supposedly designed from the drapes used at the enthronement pavilion. H: 4 in (10.3cm) fully extended. Rare and nicely-preserved. Ex North Carolina archaeological professor’s private collection.
