Antique Bontems Mechanical Singing Birds Cage

Item Details

Description

Antique mechanical singing birds cage by famous French automaton maker Bontems, circa 1900 . When wound, two birds move and sing clearly and beautifully, both heads turn while their tails move up and down. The cage is brass and features ornamentation at the base, as well as a decorative band higher up. The bottom of the cage has a velvet lining and vine foliage winding up the perch. The winding mechanism has three settings: off, constant and intermittent. Marked on the bottom "Made in France, 5616665". Very good antique condition (caging slightly bent and needs cleaning,/polishing, see photos). Measures 11" x 20"t.
