Carved and Painted Figure of an Angel
late 17th/early 18th century, probably Italian, poised with wings and arms spread, the carved banner worn but likely Latin.

Condition
Overall patination with typical surface losses and shrinkage cracks (most with old filler). The left hand lacking. General losses to the upper half at the right side which includes the right arm and hand along with four circular holes within the drapery fold. The parcel-gilt crown lacking one rear point.
Evidence of powderpost beetles from the hairline and face down into the upper breast along with several vertical shrinkage cracks and a loss to the very top surface of the nose. The forward foot with an old restoration.
Retains traces of the original paint and gilt (crown). The rear shoulder with a deep, open shrinkage crack long ago secured with two old iron nails and wire. The rear hair "knot" and both side edges with extensive beetle damage.
Rear base with a circular sticker and what appears to be a black inventory number.
