Description
Circa 1879-1882 Western Mining Ledger. Substantial 11" x 16" leather-bound ledger, 640 pages long and rather heavy. Leather-covered boards with gilt decoration, reinforced spine. The entries continue intermittently until page 271 ("Profit and Loss"), then discontinue. The enterprise started off with $30,000 in working capital and completed operations with $43,000. The ledger accounts for all expenses and income. We note two pages dealing with the "Columbia" and "Wide Awake" lodes. They had a "Phoenix" mine and kept accounts at the Banks of Rico and Dolores. We believe this business was located in Colorado. They also mined coal. Some loss and deterioration to leather, but generally sound.
