Description

Edward Matthew Ward (British 1816-1879), "In Need of a Drink", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. 19th century oil on canvas figural painting of two women in an interior. Painting depicts an older stern looking woman seated in a chair holding a cane in her hand at center wrapped in a red and fur robe with a black bonnet. She is attended to by a young beauty wearing a cross necklace, who pours wine for her in a room with a red curtain and pedestal base table. Typed label attached on verso of stretcher “E.M. WARD”. Framed approximately 17.75" x 15.75". Unframed approximately 12" x 10".
