Title: Figure Study of Paul with the Serpent before the Maltese | Figurstudie für Paulus mit der Schlange vor den Maltesern, ca. 1898
Technique: Original Hand Signed and Dated Charcoal Drawing on Paper
Size: 41 x 31cm. / 16.1 x 12.2 in.
Additional Information: This drawing is hand signed in black pencil "MLiebermann" at the lower right corner.
It was realized in circa 1898.
Note: This is a preparatory drawing for the the subject's inclusion in a 1901 illustrated Bible.
The scene depicts a crowd on the isle of Malta watching a frightened Paul shaking off into the fire the poisonous snake which had bit him.

The authenticity of this work has been kindly confirmed by Dr. Margreet Nouwen from the Max Liebermann Archive, Berlin.
Condition: Very good condition. Soft creasing at the sheet edges. Slight waviness to the sheet and with minor toning.
