Description
AN INTERESTING AND ORNATE SILVER MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL CASE, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1850. The rectangular case with rounded corners and both sides of the hinged case covered in tortoiseshell set in a steel frame. The cover with gilt copper relief sculpted plaque depicting a British Hunt Scene set within an engraved silver filigree framework. The interior silk lined with two opposing pockets and old dedicatory inscription, From Countess Bobnuski, granddaughter of Catherine II Czarina of Russia, presented to Dr. Albert Schaffle A.D. 1854. Length 6.25 inches (16 cm).
