Description
A Syro-Hittite Astarte Figure, ca. 2800 - 1500 B.C. A pottery figure of the goddess Astarte, with a simple inverse triangle physical form below the arms and shoulders. Both arms are folded back on themselves, touching the chest. The goddess wears a double stranded necklace and has a stylized face that is instantly recognizable as from this period: a large, beak-like nose, a projecting headdress/coiffure, and a pair of huge eyes.
