FRANCE, CIRCA 1837 A French model 1837 naval officer's sword manufactured by Coulax & Cie. of Klingenthal, France. Coulax & Cie. was founded after the Coulax family purchased the Royal Forge to which they over saw the operation of from 1801 to 1836. The sword is a fine example with refined gilt mounts with a reticulated foliate and vine hilt encompassing an anchor adorned with a figural dolphin head quillon. The sword possesses an ebony horn handle. Blade impressed with two hallmark and signed "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal".
