A lovely gold-plated sterling silver sugar sifter spoon that dates to 1894, as is marked. The sugar sifting spoon has an ornate punctured floral design on its round bowl, which measures 2 inches in diameter. The spoon measures approximately 6-1/2 inches long and weighs 50 grams or one troy ounce. The spoon has a lovely twisting handle and at the end there is an engraved landscape with a sunset, a sailboat and a bear. A cornucopia envelops all the natural abundance, creating an idyllic scene. The bear with sunset is the classic California image, making this most likely a California Gold Rush era spoon. On the back, the spoon is marked Sterling. The gold plating on this spoon is worn, but this is normal for its age. This does not detract from the elegance of this piece. A lovely piece of history!
