Chinese Qing Dynasty Gilt Silver censer cast in a shape of a standing rooster, with head upward standing gracefully on its two legs upon the domed silver base in cresting LiShui wavy water motif. The face and crown are delicately inlaid with attractive deep-red tourmaline. The demountable wings covered the flori-form opening on the hump. Crowing as the sun rises, the rooster is considered a propitious yang creature, having the capacity to frighten off evil spirits. Further, the pronunciation of rooster in Chinese, is loosely homophonic to auspiciousness, both characters has the pronunciation ji but in different tones. Roosters crowns, or guan in Chinese, is homophonic with officials or public posts, guan, which are considered the path to wealth and power in the past.

Mark on base, incised six script -KaiShu- characters enclosed within double square borders, JiaQing Reign Period of Great Qing.

Excellent condition, with normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dent. Surface traced wear and or declined to gilding. Normal, considering ages and wears.
