An antique Chinese nephrite jade carved unto an ancient coin shaped form. The jade shows celadon olive tinge, with attractive sporadic creme and deep-green natural inclusions, and moist milky appearance. The plaque presented upon Zitan wood stand, open-work carved with floral motif.

LOT NOTES:

Bi (Pi) disk, Carved jade disc with a hole in the center, used for ritualistic or emblematic purposes. The earliest examples are undecorated and date from the Neolithic age (10,000 BC onward), while later examples become more highly decorated. Although not known for sure, they are assumed to represent symbols of the sun or of heaven.
