DESCRIPTION: Bertha E. Jaques (Ohio, 1986-1941). Color etching on paper. "Purple Drops". 1937. Signed lower right. Double matted in gold frame. Jaques is known for etching landscapes, seascapes, rural and urban views, as well as initiating the etching revival of the 20th century making it a serious medium for artists to work with. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Dr. Beate A. Schiwek (1943-2016), Chambersburg, PA. Dr. Schiwek was the Dean and Chief Academic Officer at Felician College in Lodi, NJ, Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA. While at Felician, she became the first dean of a private college to serve as National President of the Council of Colleges at Arts & Sciences. MEASUREMENTS: 5-5/16" x 7-5/16". Overall in frame 1-5/8" x 21-5/8". CONDITION: Toning to paper. Not examined outside of frame.
