Description
Second half 19th century, 278 x 120 cm, South East Caucasus
Polychrome diagonal stripe designs are frequently encountered in both Genje and Talish rugs. The knotting structure indicates that this colourful example with a high pile is a Talish weaving. The stripes contain vines decorated with blossoms, and the design is more diverse in appearance than usual. The main border displays Talish rosettes on a grey-blue ground. – Several rewoven sections, new overcasting along the sides, slightly reduced ends.
