HARRIET FITZGERALD (VIRGINIA, 1904-1984) LANDSCAPE PAINTING, oil on canvas, vibrant field with stone wall, mountains in the distance, signed lower right. Housed in an old frame. Mid 20th century. 17 1/4" x 21 1/4" sight, 23 1/2" x 27 1/2" OA.
Small puncture at center of hill in foreground, otherwise very good.
Provenance: Private collection of Kim and David Warfield, Shenandoah Co., VA.
Catalogue Note: A graduate of Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia, Harriet Fitzgerald studied with John Sloan and Maurice Stern in New York City as a young artist. Exhibiting widely in her lifetime, Fitzgerald returned again and again to her alma mater to lecture and exhibit her work. The present work is likely a Virginia scene, possibly depicting the Blue Ridge mountains just west of Lynchburg.
